Sure Big Gig and Legends in the Park 2018 has been cancelled

We’re hugely disappointed to announce that we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Sure Big Gig and Legends in the Park.

Unfortunately we have been let down very late in the day by the act we had been working with for Legends in the Park and regrettably, despite doing everything we could to put the event on, it hasn’t been possible to find a replacement at such short notice.

We are incredibly saddened to let down all those who were looking forward to the Sure Big Gig including people who had bought tickets, the other acts who were performing, the fantastic charities we were supporting and our loyal sponsors and suppliers.

Anyone who has already bought tickets is entitled to a full refund. The ticket agent (365 Tickets) will contact ticket holders within the next fortnight with details of how to obtain a full refund (including booking fee). We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

The Sure Big Gig is run by volunteers and we have never made money from the events as all profits are donated to local charities. Over the years we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes in Jersey. We are especially disappointed that the event will not make a contribution this year but we’re very grateful that our headline sponsor Sure has offered to make a donation of £1,000 to each of Help a Jersey Child and Teenage Cancer Trust, Jersey Appeal on our behalf.

We will return in 2019 to celebrate the 10thanniversary of the Sure Big Gig Weekend.

Q&A

Q: Why is Sure Big Gig not going ahead this year?

A:We’re hugely disappointed that we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Sure Big Gig. Unfortunately we have been let down very late in the day by the act we had been working with for Legends in the Park and regrettably, despite doing everything we could to put the event on, it hasn’t been possible to find a replacement at such short notice.

Q: How can ticket-holders get refunds?

A: Anyone who has already purchased a ticket will be contacted within the next two weeks by 365 Tickets who will advise on how to claim a full refund including booking fee.

Q: What about people who’ve booked travel to come over to Jersey for the event?

A: We are hugely disappointed for those people who have booked to travel and stay in Jersey so they could attend Sure Big Gig this year. Sadly we are not responsible for this and therefore cannot refund the costs for people’s travel arrangements but those people can of course get a refund on their Sure Big Gig ticket. Ticket holders will be contacted by 365 tickets on how to claim this refund. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Q: Who was the headliner who let you down?

A: We won’t be revealing the name of the act as it was the subject of private commercial negotiations.

Q: Why can’t you stage Sure Big Gig in the Park without the Legends day?

A: Unfortunately it just isn’t financially viable as the cost of staging the event is too high to be recouped from a one-day event. We’re very disappointed that the gig can’t go ahead despite doing everything we could to find a replacement Legends act at such short notice.

Q: Why don’t you put the event on with local bands?

A: Sure Big Gig has always been about bringing big-name acts to Jersey and this is reflected in the ticket price. Unfortunately due to the cost of staging the event it isn’t financially viable to hold the event without the draw of a big-name headliner.

Q: What’s going to happen to Search For A Star?

A: Unfortunately as Sure Big Gig isn’t going ahead this year the ‘Search For A Star’ act will also not be able to perform as planned. We’d encourage anyone who applied this year to reapply for the event in 2019 and details of the process to follow will be available on our website.

Q: What will happen to the charitable donations this year?

A: The Sure Big Gig is run by volunteers and we have never made money from the event as all profits are donated to local charities. Over the years we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes in Jersey so we are especially disappointed that the event will not make a contribution this year but we’re very grateful that our headline sponsor Sure has offered to make a donation of £1,000 to each of Help A Jersey Child and Teenage Cancer Trust, Jersey Appeal.

Q: I was really looking forward to seeing Craig David, will he still perform in Jersey?

A: We were thrilled to secure Craig David for Sure Big Gig 2018 and we know he was a huge draw for people attending so we’re very disappointed that we won’t be able to see him perform as planned. Craig David’s team have been very supportive and appreciate that many of his fans will be disappointed but we would like to reassure you that we are in discussions to bring him to the island in the future.

Q: Will you definitely be back next year?

A: Planning is already underway for the 2019 Sure Big Gig Weekend and we’re hoping it’ll be the best yet to mark our 10thanniversary.
